政府投资高速还是基础公交建设 Recently, our government confronted with two options, one is to invest on public transportation; the other is to focus on highways. Those who prefer to construct the high-way hold the opinion that investment of building more high-ways is instrumental to our economical trade. On the other hand, others argue that spending money on public transportation, such as bus, stations, are beneficial to people. Faced with a mounting traffic crisis, I believe the government should focus on improving public transportation instead of improving roads and highways. There are numerous reasons for my inclination , I would explore the most conspicuous ones as follows.
The first and foremost significant reason for my propensity is that investment on public transportation could dramatically reduce air pollution. No one can denying the fact that the polluting gas, which exhausted by the air-borne cars, has become a headache problem of most industrial countries. Provided that there are more convenient and comfortable public buses available to residents in a big city, consequently, Dwellers are more likely to take bus to work in the morning and are less to use their own cars which might exhaust more waste gases.
Of equal importance is the fact that investment on public transportation might bring more convenience for people, compelled with reducing traffic jams. I can think of no better illustration than the following case, my hometown, a middle city in China, has spend a fair proportion of money in buying fifty public cars last year , and meanwhile, restricting driving private cars of each family. Despite that there are many people object to the investments, however, the conclusion is the best evidence. Last year, the average traffic disasters are more than 320 per year in my hometown, by means of paying more attention to public transportation tools, statistic reports the average traffic jams has decreased largely this year. Therefore, less cars means less traffic jams. On no account can we ignore the importance of public transportation . Investment in public transportation also makes sense for the customers. The most expensive public transportation in the city costs 5 Yuan. Two trips across the city every day for a whole year would still be less than a fifth of the cost of a new car, not to mention the inevitable expenditure of maintaining a good performance of the car. Taking into account the considerable upkeep expenses of a car, gases , insurance, and repairs , owning a car is much less economic and convenient than is taking the bus or the subway.
Admittedly, investing money on highways have it undeniable merits, for example , in some large cities , such as Guangdong, Beijing, it is necessary for people to build more highways, which will meets the increasingly demand of global transportation trade. Nonetheless, everything compared with the daily needs of local residents, pales.
Investing money on public transportation is imperative for holistic benefits of our country. Only by focusing on public transportation, can our environment become benefit to our human life. Only by improving public transportation, can we reduce the heavy traffic burden. Only by spending money on the transportation tools, can we save more money and energy. Actually, It is the time for us to grasp the reality and make considerable efforts to improve the living condition and environment of our own.
