the answer is D. If choice A is changed as " so many changes at once as they did in", the expression is correct? Many thanks.

so as 只用于否定句，出现no/not才算否定句的，有never的是肯定句。D中Confronted变成did也是对的吧。

请问 so much...as 用在否定句中, never 表否定的意思, 为什么在这个句里不可以?

我觉得选择D是因为其他选项都不合理，当然，我认为否定句还是应该用So...as，而never显然是否定啊

必须是明确的否定词才行，这个词组的用法是这样的： not so...as..
