此题是不是考older和ancient的区别，另外里面有一个典故，HOMER应指荷马，所以时态应是had been known

To match the tense of "uncovered", shouldn't it be "was" ?
The civilization was a thousand years more ancient than the city was.

So maybe the only key is that ancient is better than old for "civilization" ?
