答案选A。E答案除了being made这点用的不好以外还有什么错误么？还有这里的being made怎么就错了呢？

being在这里是个很awkward，没有必要出现的词。但是，它出现的是有原因的：即A和E中hear后面接的成分不同。

A中，它是hear that such an optical instrument had been made
hear后面跟that，that后面引导从句，从句是一个句子，表达的意思是【这个instrument被制造】，是这一件事。

而E中 hear of such an optical instrument being made
hear后面跟of，而of这个介词只能接名词成分却不能接句子，所有想要和A表达同样的意思的话，就必须得变成这个带being的结构。但是这个being一出现，你读的过程中就能感受到它不如A来的顺口。

总的来说，GMAT的SC有一种感觉：“在表意一样，且无歧义的的情况下，选择一个最为简洁舒适的表达”
因此，E的being made很awkward，应该避免~
