Some people assert that the non monetary highly-publicized reward for high performance is the best incentive for employees.Here i part company.To some extend spiritual reward motivate employees and rise productivity,however,the incentive effect of non-monetary reward should not be overestimated.In my opinion,the best way to motivate employees is to raise salary and offer bonues.
In the first place,money is the necessity of the survival of humanbeings and the primary purpose for people to work is to make a living.People work to make money and employees can hardly be motivated without economic incentives,since people are unwilling to work hard if they know that hardworking might not better them off but merely offer them non-monetary reward,which cannot buy them nothing.Thus,employer's purpose to raise productivity is disappointed.Therefore,we should in no means ignore the basic needs of people,without which people cannot even survive let alone work harder and more efficiently.
In the second place, raises and bonuses serve as motivation to employees in any aspects that non-monetary rewards do and people are satisfied both materially and spritually. Employees are feeling respected and recognized when they gain more money award than other people through hard work and better job, just as they are awarded by some honour .Moreover,money award also strengthen the economic status of employees and a better living condition,which may do good to employees’ health both physically and psychologically, thus enable them to be more productive.
Moreover, design of the non monetary reward system is more difficult and risky to the management because unfair and unscientific design will be counterproductive.The utility of non-monetarly rewards vary among people, different people regard the value of the rewards differently. Therefore, not all people are expecting the same kind of rewards when they achieve something on jobs, making it hard for employer to design various kinds of non-monetary rewards to satisfy the unique needs of individuals to motivate employees better.However, though it may be difficult and risky, the effort is worthwhile in light of the tremendous benefits from non-monetary reward methods.
However, the best way to motivate employees is to combine the monetary method and non-monetary method together, since both method may work together well and be more effective than they are use exclusively, respectively. Employers may design different combinations of the two rewards to make best use of them. In conclusion, the non-monetary rewords should not act exclusively as incentives of employees,since the raise and bonus are also effective motivations ,and to some extend , monetary rewards cater to the needs of employees better thus motivate them better.Howerver,the best way to encourage harder and more productive work should be the combination of the above two method mentioned.
