请教几道语法题

1. In his eagerness to find a city worthy of Priam, the German archaeologist Schliemann cut through Troy and uncovered a civilization a thousand years older as was the city Homer's heroes knew.

A. more ancient than the city known to Homer's heroes

B. older than was the city known to Homer's heroes

答案 A

我对B的理解如下: a thousand years .....是省略了that was 的定语从句 修饰civilization. 全句为...... a civilization that was a thousand years older than was the city known to homer's heroes. 其中系动词 was 补出 并倒装 这不是比A更好么？

以上理解错误在那呢？

2. Several senior officials spoke to the press on condition that they not be named in the story.

A. that they not be named

B. they will not be named

C. of not being named

答案是A. 为什么呢 难道是虚拟语气？

3. When rates were raised in 1985, postal service officals predicted that they would make further rate increase unnecessary for at least three years.

A. 同上

B. that it would not be necessary for further rate increases

C. that the increase would make further rate increases unnecessary

答案是C 为啥不是B?

第一句是：是宾语在进行比较，而不是主语，你补出的was就没有意义了。

第二句是虚拟。

第三句可能Increase中C为特指，而B为泛指。

谢谢公子小白解惑 刚拿到老师对2-3题的解答 基本如上 但 对于第一题 我觉得a civilization 确实 主句结构的宾语 但同时也 从句的主语 what do you guys think?

这里的确是比较两个主语，但是当没有主谓宾结构，而只是主谓结构的句子时，通常后一个比较对象的谓语可以省略。而且OG的解释经常会给出为 unnecessary.

3. When rates were raised in 1985, postal service officals predicted that they would make further rate increase unnecessary for at least three years.

A. 同上

B. that it would not be necessary for further rate increases

C. that the increase would make further rate increases unnecessary

答案是C 为啥不是B?

我的看法是, B 中的it 只能理解为形式宾语， 但是形式宾语只能指代不定式短语， 或是that-clause. 这里 it 不可能指代 for further rate increases.  所以B错。

另外有同学指出 修饰城市不能用old 只能用ancient

第三题关于形式宾语的规定我不太确定 不过it指代不明是定罪的了

第一题,凡是看到old和ancient在一起的,一定是选后者,这是新东方总结的规律之一.

第二题,on condition that 是固定搭配,不能有其它形式.

第三题,因为前半句是rates,但是B是rate,错.还有,it would be necessary是多余,OG一定会说它wordy.
