(B) few having been known to taste it
(C) it has been tasted by few people
(D) few people have been known to taste it
(E) few people having tasted it

19. Balzac drank more than fifty cups of coffee a day and died of caffeine poisoning; furthermore, caffeine did not seem to bother Samuel Johnson, the great writer and lexicographer, who was reported to have drunk twenty-five cups of tea at one sitting.
(A) furthermore, caffeine did not seem to bother
(B) however, caffeine did not seem to bother
(C) however, caffeine did not seem to have bothered
(D) furthermore, caffeine did not seem to have bothered
(E) in addition, caffeine did not seem to bother

Key is D(Q.14), B(Q.19)

19 肯定选c, b必错，时序不对。
14 倾向选a, 应保持时态一致，强调对现在的影响或现在的看法。

答案倒是知道，但老是做错（尤其是14题）。

have been known to have tasted, 因为taste应在know之前发生啊！19题也是同理啊！
到底哪不对？？郁闷！

不知道对不对，我是选了没有完成式的不定式，感觉上以来句子不会很复杂，二来我认为不定式后的形式是不是完成式只是和后面比如说对比什么的有关西，拿14来说few people have been known to taste it for the first time without requesting more.中 to taste it for the first time without requesting more.讲述的就是这么一件事，为身么要用完成式呢？

14 D) 如果用HAVE TEASTED那么强调TASTE发生在KNOWN 之前, 我觉得没有这个必要

有同感，我也感觉应该都用不定式的完成时。og上，lzm上面都是这么用的。

The following comments come from an American guy, who scored 800 in GMAT several weeks ago, with only one week preparation.

2. The western world's love affair with chocolate is well-documented:
(few people have been known to have tasted it) for the first time
without requesting more.
(a) few people have been known to have tasted it
(b) few having been known to taste it
(c) it has been tasted by few people
(d) few people have been known to taste it
(e) few people having tasted it

D

A is wrong because of the verb tenses.  "have been known to have" is not
a tense.

B is wrong because you don't have a subject and an "ing" verb.

C is wrong because the subject is "it" but "it" isn't requesting more.

E is wrong because after a ":" you need something that can stand alone
as a sentence.

B

A is wrong because "furthermore" should be more of the same, not a
contradiction.

C is wrong because the verb tense is wrong.  "did not seem to have
bothered" is too many tenses all together.

D. is wrong for the same reasons as A and C.

E is wrong for the same reason as A
