答案是A，我的疑问是
1，B选项中的what many feared earlier in the year和C选项的something earlier in the year many had feared可以是同位语吗，D选项中的many were fearing earlier in the year定语
2，C里的 to avoid the recession和 instead to come，D的to avoid the recession和rather to come为什么不是平行？

我们先看看A句有没有问题：
According to some analysts, the gains in the stock market reflect growing confidence (that the economy will avoid the recession (that many had feared earlier in the year) and instead come in for a “soft landing,” (followed by a gradual increase in business activity)).主干是：gains reflect confidence.
that跟定于从句修饰confidence, 定于从句中的主干是economy will avoid ... and come ...
recession有个定语从句修饰它，“soft landing”有个followed...修饰它。

再看选项B：
in the economy to avoid the recession, what many feared earlier in the year, rather to come
1.主干是gains reflect confidence to avoid recession. to修饰动词，意思是主语做一个动作的目的，这里gains可以reflect confidence，但是gains reflect confidence目的是avoid recession？
2.原句里面 many feared earlier in the year是做recession的essential modifier，这里成了nonessential modifier，而且指代词还换成了what
3.原句里to avoid 和 come是用and连接平行的，但B中这两个用rather连接起来了，没有这个用法啊。

CDE基本上也都是跟原句有语音上的出入。我觉得楼主最大的问题应该是原句没有看懂，建议在理解原句的基础上，参考上面对B选项的分解，自己找找CDE跟原句的不同，不同就会有意思差异，试着自己分析一下。
