(1) advocate –虚拟语气的使用，省略should.
(2) that land to him作为Africa的同位语，起修饰作用
为什么用symbolized而不是symbolizing来修饰that land? 会不会是symbolized前省去了which is?
如何理解？

那样的话that land to him成为孤独结构，没有实际意义了。而且这样which有指代歧义

是不是.......因为which从句不能修饰前面的句子，所以要用分词构句，
然后分词构句的形式可以是V-ing or V-ed，看句意决定?

ex. some Blacks return to Africa 不会主动 symbolize the possibility of freedom,
所以不用symbolizing,要用symbolized？

我觉得抽出,that land to him,插入成分,原句变为to Africa (that) symbolized the possibility of freedom. 同时,使用过去时态与主句时态一致.
