It seems that those so-called international PE funds are generally very narrow-minded..I contacted them (some VPs, some associate directors) via my relatives and close friends...they expressly told me they only wanna recruit students from top B-schools, because those f*cking stupid LPs are very concerned about the team's investment experience and academic background. Regarding summer interns, a fund specializing in TMT confirmed with me they will only consider Wharton/HBS graduates....I am just curious how many Chinese students are studing in M7 mba programs....

I already had master degree in top IVY league schools and am doing MBA in a Top 30 schools in the US...anyway, will push for more networking opportunities to get an offer!

This is a simple question of supply and demand.  Given the amount of people from M7 available for work, and the amount of laid-off experienced people, PEs can absolutely afford to be picky.

It's difficult to get into mega funds without pre-MBA buy side experience even you are from HBS/Wharton or any other schools. Plus most of them came from those few schools so it's reasonable to assume that they don't want to be diluted. They don't need to take the risk of hiring someone from a top 30 school and neither do they care about whether you are the no.1 or no.400 student from your school, unless you can bring sth else to the table. It's just the way how it works.

So don't be too disappointed and try to think what you can do with your background. Pick a game that you are allowed to play.

i guess the question they 'll ask why you were doing an MBA in a non-top school after a top school master.

actually I do not think there are LOTS OF Chinese students in top MBA programs.Lots of them may only consider opportunities in the US. To be honest, I do not think all those M7 graduates are that excellent. I used to co-handle a PE project with the principal investments team of a leading investment bank. A wharton MBA worked there as associate, but I cannot smell any smartness from that guy. very "just so so", to be honest...

Moreover, I do not think there are much differences between other Top 30 MBA programs excluding M7. Anyway, it is useless to complain...there are lots of things out of our control...

lol i'm sure you have taken GMAT. do you really believe the statement

one guy from wharton is not smart = everybody from M7 is not smart

is logically correct?

clarification: my point is not all the M7 graduates have better qualities than graduates from other schools...it all depends...screening candidates by schools is so arbitrary....
