1. wildanimals have less total fat than that of livestock(×) Ron 说过,when you see a comparison, you need to boil thecomparison down to the SINGLE NOUNS/PRONOUNS that are compared.
我的思路: That前面有名词wild animals和fat,这里make sense的只有fat. (1)Ilike apples more than Tom. 和I like Tom. I like apples more than Tom. (2)Ilike apples more than pears.这里只能比较的是apples和pears,因为只能是I like apples/pears.
在这句话中:wild animals haveless total fat than fat of livestock.(1)按照逻辑,如果说比较的是wild animlas和livestock,前者在wildanimals have less total fat中做的是主语,而后者是fat的宾语(介宾结构),或者说是fat的modifier,因此不对。
2.rice has protein of higher quality than that in wheat(√) That前面有名词rice、protein、quality,这里that只能指代protein,因为不可能有rice in wheat或quality in wheat。因此我还原成rice has proteinof higher quality than protein inwheat. There's still LOGICALparallelism - you have the protein containedin rice, and you have the protein contained in wheat -but the GRAMMATICAL parallelism isn't lock-step: you have "rice has protein" vs. "that in wheat". In other words, while both halves refer to the protein containedin a particular type of food, they do so in slightly different ways.
The lesson here is that we shouldn't complain, but, rather, we should learn: if the logical parallelism is absolutely clear, then the gmat will tolerate slight anomalies from the ideal of exactgrammatical parallelism.
还有两个比较的对比,我当时纠结了很久,在这里补充下吧~ OG16 90:B:Pricesat the producer level are only 1.3 percent higher now than those of a year ago(√) 比较的是主语prices,分别是Pricesat the producer level和Pricesof a year ago at the producer level. A/C: Pricesat the producer level are only 1.3 percent higher now than a year ago(√) Prices at the producer level now和Prices at the producer level a year ago。 这里贴下RON的解释,两种比较确实都是对的: CrystalSpringston(某个学生)问:Hi Ron, yes there existed other tense problem in the second part of the sentence . It is an OG question. Maybe it is not legimate to post the complete sentence here according to the rules. The original underlined first half is "Prices at the producer level are only 1.3 percent higher now than a year ago....."
The OA of the first half is "Prices at the producer level are only 1.3 percent higher now than those of a year ago...."
If you tell me that both of them(maybe the second one is better in expresson) are acceptable, I think I get a very clear picture and have no further questions.
But the problem is the OG explanation saying The sentence as written makes an illogical comparison between prices at the
producer level and a time period (a year ago); surely the intended comparison is
between such prices now and those of a year ago
They think the 1st one is incorrect.... I am confused here...I know we don't need to challenge the OA rather than learn from it.
But it's really hard to learn from this exampls.
Pls help. Thank.
Ron的回答:both versions are fine.i looked at the problem, and—just as i suspected—the choices with '...than a year ago' can be eliminated for other, quite straightforward, reasons.don't forget—the OG answer keys are usually incomplete, and often incorrect.
the official PROBLEMS are essentially flawless, but the official answer keys are not. (GMAC's all-stars, the people who write the problems, do not write the answer keys; GMAC 'outsources' that work to people of lesser talent, presumably to cut costs.)

OG16 104:A/B/D Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than last (√) 比较的是状语。Heating-oil prices this year。和Heating-oil prices last (year)。 E Heating-oil prices will rise higher this yearthan last year’s(×) Heating-oil prices will rise higher this yearthan last year’s price。 Heating-oilprices will rise higher this year和last year’s prices语法上不平行。
