一道SC题目求解答！！

这个题og说是关于链接两个independent clause的问题需要comma+连词  可是原谅我一个刚刚看完曼哈顿的语法小白看到这真的超级疑惑——  independent clause不是必须结构完整主谓都有吗  可是这个题逗号后面直接是is best studied XXX 那不是没主语吗？？我当时做这道题的时候认为选D是因为整个句子是一个主语加复合谓语（一个是the type of behavior comes 一个是 the type of behavior is best studied）这样理解的所以直接用一个and连接而没有逗号。但是og关于A选项的解释是因为THUS不能做连词只能是副词可是就算A选项填了连词那不还是逗号加and后面的clause没有主语吗？那还能算是independent clause吗？？？？而且如果我写成 ，and so it is best studied又是否正确呢？我认为如果按og给的解释这道题属于run-on题的话那答案不就是应该是如上那样吗？可是如果是按照上述红字粗体那样的答案it又是否会出现指代不明的情况（type of behavior 还是theory）

and so it is best studied里so有做连词的嫌疑，那样就是and ,so 两个连词了
还有本句话表达的是 behavior xxx and xxx ...
前句中已经有了itself指代animal ..那你这里的it 指代什么？俺逻辑就是animal 可这完全改变了句意原句是behavior 做为研究对象。而这里变成了animal
