答案是D，但是题目中have observed已经是scientists的动词了，consistent with又是findings的动词，逗号不能连接两句句子，这个是个明显的语法错误吧？我当时因为这个原因直接把D排除了。结果正确答案是D，有大神可以解释一下吗

应该是同位语表示补充说明吧 comma+n的结构consistent with 修饰findings

其他选项或多或少有指代问题。

a) which 默认指代sediments。 “sediments.... consistent with growth" 不是很好。
b) where 在这里莫名其妙。
c) “its growth" 里its是谁？
d）像楼上说的， Scientists have observed (xxxxx), findings ..... 这里 xxxx和finding是同位语。
e) ".... Baltic Sea, consistent ...." 。这里consistent 默认是跟前面最近的名词，就是Baltic Sea。但是这里并不是波罗的海和什么东西consistent, 而是那个finding和后面的东西consistent。

Agree with Sarakael. "Findings" is to describe what the scientists have observed, and it is more accurate than "which", and definitely better than "which" in this particular sentence, as there are multiple nouns "concentrations", "heavy metal deposits", "BS sediments" in the previous clause/sentence. From a reader-friendly perspective, it is better to avoid the ambiguity by using "which".
