题主os:developed independently from 不就是独立发展的意思么,怎么还成了有developed from的关系但是加成 independently限定的意思?
 Like choice D – Development of company ABC is independent of its parent organization XYZ.
o This implies that company ABC development has nothing to do with its parent organization

又搜到这个:
R.Quirk编著的《英语语法大全》p.1387明确指出：和as well as及in stead of一样,rather than后面跟一个和母句中的动词形式并不匹配的ing分词分句时,它是介词,而不是准并列连词.
这里是不是说,rather than 接doing 有强调动作的意思;
而instead of 接 doing 就是和前面并列(上文提到的准并列连词?)做 are 的表语, 偏向名词?

模糊了,求点拨确认.

这题选的应该是B吧......
developed independently from和developments was independent of的区别指的是B和C的区别。
因为题目比较前项是branch，后面肯定不能用doing sth或者a development；于是只能说a type，就只剩下BC了。
BC之间的意思是不一样的，参考你找到的资料就行：
developed independently from XXX——中心是developed from，也就是说前者是XXX发展来的；加上independently说明没有外力帮助。
developments was independent of XXX——含义是这个发展跟XXX没关系，意思跟原题完全不一样。
