诚心请教，本人有北美Ph.D.学位，其中一封推荐信要不要找博士导师写？

向各位大牛请教。
本人在美7年，有美国Engineering博士学位，两年多的工作经验（这是第一份正式工作，博士期间还有两个实习）。两封推荐信里面一封要不要请博士生导师写？有的人说最好都是industry的，难道4年多的博士经历（也算工作经验）不需要一个reference吗？毕竟毕业之后也只有过一份正式的工作。

看坛子里没有类似的问题作为参考，在此先谢谢各位！

你可以发信问下AO最好。
我个人感觉phd的可以用一封导师的，但有的学校又网站上写明不接受academic的，所以最好还是问他们吧。

谢谢回复！刚去了Booth的info session说是可以Ph.D.的导师写，但最好着重在非学术的部分。

一般情况下，你这种情况是可以的，只是要提醒教授写的时候注意一下这是申请MBA，不是普通硕士。

Well selecting your recommenders is an operation of its own. And to advise you properly I would have to know all your options. What I would say though is that since you have had one job that you choose one supervisor from your job and your mentor from the PHD program.

Thank you so much Jon. My options are either having one recommendation letter from the GM of China in my company and the other from my direct supervior in US or the option I have proposed in this thread. My thoughts are that it is inappropriate to erase my four years of grad school experience, considering I only have two years of work experience after graduation. Besides my acedemia advisor is one of the persons who knows me the best. Any comments?

Hey there,
Well in general it is still better to get recommendations from work. For a PHD its a bit different because you also do “work” during your Phd. What I would say is use the two who were strongest as your main recommenders, and then have the third person send in an “additional recommendation” with whatever they have to add. Could be a nice bonus. Otherwise, just go with the two who would write the most excited recommendation.
