请问that什么时候可以省略，什么时候不可以省略呢？
Manhattan说当that的指代内容做宾语时，可以省略。

说第一个that不可省略。但是that指代growing confidence，不是做宾语吗？为什么不能省略？

D选项解释里 “The recession must be followed by that”，这里的that难道不是修饰recession的定语从句“that many had feared earlier in the year ”里充当的宾语吗？为什么这个that不能省略呢？

我的理解是，that表示一个整体的概念，即the economy will这一件事情。去掉that,则表部分概念，即the economy这一个东西。

manhatton上说的应该不是that修饰宾语可省略而是 that 引导宾语从句的时候可以省略这里 the condidence that 是引导的同位语
