[求助]og 70,关于likely的用法

70.   A President entering the final two years of a second term is likely to be at a severe disadvantage and often unable to carry out a legislative program.

(A) likely to be at a severe disadvantage and is often unable to

(B) likely severely disadvantaged and often unable to

(C) liable to be severely disadvantaged and cannot often

(D) liable that he or she is at a severe disadvantage and cannot oftenA

(E) at a severe disadvantage, often likely to be unable that he or she can

我选了b,答案是a没什么问题,就是不明白为什么likely disadvantaged is less precise than likely to be at a disadvantage.看起来后者似乎还比较wordy.

请nn们指教,ets什么思路?

likely is an adjective and can not be used to modify disadvantaged.

be at disadvantage 和 be disadvantaged 的区别。此处be at disadvantage 来得更加确切。

我个人的体会是,at a severe disadvantage 和 severely disadvantaged意思是不同的,还有就是 disadvantaged前面加2个词 severely 和likely有歧义,因为likely可以修饰severely,也可能修饰disadvantaged,但是a也不简洁,a完全可以在unable to 前省is,加了is 总感觉不符合ets的习惯!那位可以告诉我为什么要加is?是多余还是一定要加?不加是不是更好?

我认为楼上对于likely的解释很有道理。 个人认为is加上比较好,也就是and连接两个单独的成分

而且怎么能够确定often unable to前面跟的不是likely to be?
