定语从句中that可否省略的问题

我想问一下啊：在传统语法中，the flower (that) I bought 中，既然flower是bought的宾语，那么that这个关系代词就可以被省略，可以直接说the flower I bought；那么，在GMAT里，that可否被省略？

我的这个困惑，来自于OG16版SC第44题的D选项，the recession many were fearing，答案里说 “the recession” must be followed by "that"。是否意味着，在GMAT里，关系代词（如that）就算是做定语从句的宾语，也不可以被省略？

这是同位语从句，根本就不是定语从句。
同位语从句that能不能省不用我说吧？

many had feared是用来修饰recession的吧？这为什么不是定语从句呀？

看错了，以为是confidence后面的that呢。。。。不严谨了。。。。sorry。。。。
既然GMAC这么说了，你就这么记吧。这题不用这个Decision Point一样做。

你这么想啊，设你是GMAC成员之一，你老板跟你说在不暴露这题怎么做的前提下，写出不少于800字的解释。你会怎么做？是不是有用没用的都往上写？只要不是错的就可以。
目前为止，我从来没有见过任何一道题用这个点作为Decision Point。Never ever。
