It depends.


Hiring should always be merit based. Whoever has the skills and ability to handle the job gets the position. If two have similar skills, pick the one you know better to avoid uncertainties, even if he's part of your family. It's perfect ok. The exaggeration is the saying, "it's not about how much you know, it's about who you know."

I think any company should  hire employees based not on family relationships or friendships, but on capabilities or merits.


1) employees in the company who have some family relationships or friendships would promote a unfair competition environment, which would reduce the overall efficiecy and loyalty of other employees.


2)This hiring policy would influence the company's external reputation, which would affect the supplier relationship and customer relationship, even sometimes cause public shareholder nightmare.


3)There is no denying that for many incipient companies, hiring relatives and friends will help survive among other larger corporations. Such as finding clients, publicate products... But....
