第一个句子里：one third做数词，所以直接加名词；第二个句子：one third做名词所以+of，两种用法都不错。

It is a "logic" type of problem. Price of one object is compared to price of another object, not the object itself.

$310 (price) is one third the price of ...

Another example. I can only say "My salary is twice that of pete's", not "My salary is twice Pete"
