【迷茫中】2016Fall入学求定位！感谢！

请教下对于自己的定位和选校建议，先谢过提建议的大家了哈！
1. 教育背景
TOP2本科，本专业化学，GPA 3.1；双学位经济学，GPA 3.0。（恩成绩确实是硬伤...）

2. 工作经验
IBM Consulting，IT Consulting和Operation Consulting均做。2013年本科毕业，工作时间两年。

3. 成绩
G 750，IR8，AWA 5。T106，其中口语24，略坑。

4. 目标学校
其实没太想好，觉得有个S16就很满意了。

5. 未来就业
想往Finance方向转，不想再做Consulting了。

想听听大家的建议哈~再次拜谢了！

Hello there!
So my first piece of advice, if you have only been working two years is to wait one more year to apply. Two years is low experience (unless you are in strategy consulting or finance), and you may have better chances if you wait another year. Although I should add, if you are ready now, it can be a good idea for other reasons. Your GMAT is obviously great, which is important to counterbalance that relatively low GPA. With your GMAT I think that some of the Top 20 schools should be in range for you.

As for your idea to transfer to finance, I’m sure you can do it after an MBA, but it’s not a good idea to write that in your applications. Because from the schools’ perspective, it doesn’t seem all that plausible.

But whatever you decide, I wish you good luck,

So by the time he starts the program, his work experience time would be 3 years. Should he still wait for another year then?

As for career development plan, do you think that financial advisory would be a proper choice? Should he focus on US job market or aim at China directly? I am also curious about his case.

Sorry, no Chinese keyboard as always... When one has three years of WE prior to MBA, his/her choices for post-MBA jobs will be quite limited. Most corporate recruiters prefer mature candidates, better with corporate experience. Consulting and IB will be the top, if not only, two choices, where being young might even be an advantage. So if lz wants to do career switch into IB, theoritically it is doable but with a few concerns:
1) S16 (don't bind yourself to finance schools) will be the bottom line to land an IB job - UG/GT/WE seem to be on par (if you have good stories), S16 (maybe not M7) is worth trying but the result is highly uncertain
2) Really difficult to make into US IB with totally no finance background as a Chinese male (correct me if it is not the case). Perhaps you need to focus on HK and mailnland banking opportunites. Lz's UG will be a plus but at the same time the top-tier banks are very picky on MBA schools and pre-MBA experience.

My personal recommendation would be lz could actually make some move to get into finance industry before application.

That’s right.
Now three years at matriculation time is enough to go for an MBA, buuuuut it also depends on which industry. It’s more common for people coming from consulting or finance, where once they have done two years, they just easily slide into an MBA. In other industries it’s a bit different, becuase you want to try and build up a solid resume before applying. Now it doesn’t HAVE to be that he waits one more year, just from what he wrote it seems better. But if there are good reasons to apply now, it’s also possible.
