关于and的一个小问题，求NN帮助~~~

这是PERP08当中的一句正确句子：
A scrub jay can remember when it cached a particular piece of food in a particular place, researchers have discovered, and tends not to bother recovering a perishable treat stored long enough to have rotted.
我只有一个问题，为什么tend是单数形式，不可以理解成A scrub jay can remember… and (can) tend not to… 吗？

补充一下。。我理解没有can tend to 这种说法，但是当and之前出现了can，那and之后的句子如果不是(can)do的形式，不会引起语法问题吗？

tend to 趋向于
can可以
都是表情态的动词
如果can要在后面起作用，应该can not bother
不如tend not to bother准确

谢谢！明白这一点，但是当and之前出现了can，那and之后的句子如果不是(can)do的形式，不会引起语法问题吗？
