这里b中的不平行是因为一个是how 一个是formation么
如果a里面and后面的of去掉是不是也是可以的

and 【of the formation and periodic reversal in direction of Earth's magnetic field】。

其中后两个【】内的内容是parallel的，句子框架就是The discovery is responsible for advancing studies
of A and of B.
