The general welfare of a nation's people is a better indication of that nation's greatness than are the achievements of its rulers, artists, or scientists.
While the general wlfare of a nation’s people is a good indicaton of that nation’s greatness, the achievements of the nation’s rulers, artists, or scientists are of corresponding significance and what’s more is that the general public actually share inseparable relationship with the the rulers, artists, or scientists.
Admittedly, people’s general welfare is a basic and proper sign of that nation’s greatness. It is all the population as a whole that constitute a nation and the original purpose of a nation is to serve all of its people as a united group. Thereby to judge whether a nation is great or not, the general welfare of the majority of its people is of much importance. Individuals’ greatness doesn’t doesn’t neccessarily imply the nation’s greatness. Consider the Qin Dyansty in Chinese history. Lots of us would concede that Empire Qin, the ruler of the Qin Dynasty, made remarkable contribution such as the union of the standards of measurements, which laid the foundation and provided profund conveniece to the following development of China. All of these made Empire Qin a great figure. But does it mean that Qin Dynasty is a great nation? The answer is probably no if we take the living conditions of the genaral pulic in Qin Dynasty, who were under severe supervisions and controls thus had little freedom, into consideration. So a nation’s greatness relies a big part on general public’s welfare.
However, at the same time, the achievements of a nation’s rulers, artists, or scientists sometimes plays an indipensable role on that nation’s greatness. People consider Ancient Greece great as a result not of general public but Aristotle and Plato, both of whom are intelligent philosphers that open a new era of humankind’s mind. People consider France a great nation after the France Revolution mainly for the talent of its ruler, Napoleon. People attribute American’s greatness during the period of recession to its leader, Roosevelt, who acted new polices to help America and then the whole world out of the recession. Instances like these are countless so long as we are well aware of the fact that extraordinary figures keep showing up to be part of the indication of a great nation therefore it is reasonable to take the achievements of a nation’s rulers, artists , or scientists into acount to judge a nation’s greatness.
Moreover, the general welfare of a nation’s people are usually correlated with and inseperate with the achievemetns of its rulers, artists and scientists. The former president of Chech once said in an article that the leader of a nation are actually emerged from its people, reflecting the features of the general public and at the same time imposing individual effects on its nation. From this viewpoint, it is true to draw that great leaders are cultivated among great people and great people can produce great leaders thus contributes to a great nation. The same logic works for artists and scientists. Creative people leads to innovative artists and innovative artists, in turn, help to promote people’s creativeness and there two factors together forge a nation’s greatness. The same goes for scientists, who are the products of people devoted in discovering natural principles and in turn make big discoveries to improve the whole nation.
In sum, from what have discussed above, a nation’s greatness is well indicated by the general welfare of its people, which serves the original purpose of a nation, as well as the achievements of its rulers, artists, or scientists, which always mark the nation in certain ways. Furthermore, the general welfare of a nation’s people are actually the basis of the achievements of its rulers, artists, or scientists, who, in turn, help to facilitate the development of the general welfare of its people thus together to achieve the nation’s greatness.
