N9.In any field of endeavor, it is impossible to make a significant contribution without first being strongly influenced by past achievements within that field.

The past several decades has witnessed the meteoric development of every aspect of the world. After a long period of accumulating, quantities of breakthroughs in many field have been made, playing different important roles in our society. Based on the fact that these fantastic accomplishments , people tend to draw the conclusion that not being strongly influenced by the past achievements, one in any area cannot make a significant contribution. As for me, although there are flaws about it, I agree with this assertion.
First point to justify this statement that there is nearly no possibility for people who do not draw on the existing achievements to contribute to this field significantly is that as the world progresses, numerous knowledge derived from new discoveries are added to existing subjects. That is, almost every subject bases itself on the past accomplishments, which lay the foundation for specific respect of the society. In order to make a significant contribution in particular field, one must be familiar with its basic rules and laws because only when people keep in mind how it works can they refine past theories and make novel breakthroughs. Without these knowledge, it will be unrealistic for the majority of the mass to complete an unprecedented task due to the limited ability and energy.
In addition, it is the combination of realistic ideas and effective methods that make a significant contribution in any area. Being effected by the past achievements first is conducive to the formation of one's logic thought and basic skills that are of great necessity on the way to make contributions. Both help people reduce useless efforts and provide us with the ability to transform fantastic ideas originating from imagination into real great accomplishments. Studying past achievements is the most effective way to mastering these skills. Without the impacts of past breakthroughs on people, it is less likely for them to gain these valuable experience by themselves in a short period, thus impossible to make a significant contribution.
Admittedly, being influenced by the past means that people may be trapped in the existing laws and limits their imagination. Once accepting the prevailing theories, individuals tend to take certain things of great value for granted and even do not attempt to try new ideas that seems unrealistic. However, gaining the basic knowledge, n most cases, helps people to have a clear analytical mind and distinguish the real worthy dreams and the idealistic ones. What is more, with these experience, people are more likely to creative because it can inspire their imagination. Only a slight hint from these knowledge may lead to an amazing discovery.
In conclusion, in every field of endeavor, it is impossible to make significant contributions without being strongly affected by achievements of the past at first in that field because of the knowledge, experience and thought they bring to people, all of which are indispensable on the way to succeed in making a breakthrough. It may limit their imagination , but the inspiration they give to us reduce this flaw to certain extent.
