In order for any work of art-for example, a film, a novel, a poem, or a song-to have merit, it must be understandable to most people. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerationsshape your position. 1. 艺术要基于宗教文化背景。reston culture and religion; Chinese traditional paintings ; R&B 2. 艺术家的思想是超前的,大多数民众的思维无法理解。Vincent van Gogh, Mozart。很多好电影票房都不是很高。contemporary people;iconoclastic打破传统的 coeval 3. 艺术是个人经历的表现,没有相同经历或者理解力欠缺的人很难理解他们的作品。PaulGauguin Observable as a tendency of our society is the dramatically accelerating attention of art:cinemas are ubiquitous, various styles of music are prevalent, the academy of fine art or design appears at many universities and so on. Coincident with concerns about the growing appreciation of art is the require of a judge estimating the quality of an art work. To cater the public’s taste, the claim that only when a work of art could be understood by most people does it have merit. However, I fundamentally oppose the opinion. No one dares to state that any work can be established other than its original culture or religion background. Considering a spate of various cultures and religions, comprehension of those works which rest on other cultures or religions inevitably becomes a tough task. For instance, foreigners can hardly enjoy the charm of a Chinese traditional painting. They might cannot understand why the mountains and brooks are all black or white. In their previous view, a landscape painting work including trees, mountains, birds are chromatic. Thus, for them, enjoying a Chinese monochrome drawing merely with ink is too arduous. In a not dissimilar way, the Chinese have difficulty in comprehension of a cathedralpainting. In the little Christian background, they could not appreciate the fascination of those masterpieces. Hence, a work understandable to a majority of people seems impossible and impractical. In addition, vast quantities of prominent masterpieces involve rejection by the public on account of the artists’ advancing and iconoclastic minds or ideas comparing with the contemporaries. For example, Vincent van Gogh, a prodigious post-impressionist painter, was not accepted by the society at his era. Sarcastically, after death, he was considered as a remarkable artist with his notable rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color and had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. In the music field, similarly, the genius of the Classical era, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was not treated well despite of his prolific and influential opuses. However, Mozart, as one of the most enduringly popular of classical composer, had a profound influence on subsequent Western art music. As for a film, folks share a belief that the manifestation of a wonderful film is its extraordinary box office. Contrarily, in my view, the top video works are not those who have great profits but the ones with significant meaning and brilliant lens language. And the merits of those actual excellent films regularly can only be appreciated by a select group of people. What is ironic is those films who cater the public’s taste earn well fames and benefits. What is the most important, realize the extent to which art emphasizes a vital and persistent aspect of human experience over any other things, most people can hardly comprehend those works lacking of similar experience. A masterpiece must meet with the artist self rather than others. Many artists even intend to destroy their works such as Kafka and Paul Gauguin. For them, works is the manifestation of themselves’ mental world, philosophy of life and values, which may be arcane for others. To this extent, a valuable art work does not require understanding to a majority of people. To sum up, though an art work needs self-identity, it does not need to be understandable to most people in view of the work’s specific culture and religion background, the artist’s private experience of life and his or her unique consciousness which are tough for others to appreciate. |
