74. Knowing about the past cannot helppeople to make important decisions today.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to whichyou agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for theposition you take. In developing and supporting your position, you shouldconsider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explainhow these considerations shape your position.
The speaker asserts that the history isuseless when it comes to making vital determination nowadays. In my view, thisnotion is too extreme. While as great changes take place all over the world wecannot just copy what predecessors did in the past, the past still contributeto giving us treasures and cautions.
History left us a large amount ofexperience and many achievements for further exploration and a better life. Andwe made the best of it with the purpose of creating a better future. In thescientific field, without the invention of computer and the application ofsemiconductor as a stage, it is unable for us to tackle many problems easily.Computer provides scientists with an excellent tool to invent software, withwhich we write lots of letters and make plans faster. Also, as for art, artscompose so many songs and paint thoughtful oil paintings, comforting ourtension and anxiety, even inspiring our creativity in other fields. Also,unless ancestors make efforts to revolute for democracy, we won’t live such ahappy and peaceful life and can use their experience for reference to improvethe social institution. Above all, it will consume our energy a lot andrestrain our progress if we don’t have the help of history.
In addition, history also caution us a lot andenable us not to make the similar mistakes again. From the stories happened before,we concluded lessons and compare them with today’s problems for a more perfectsolutions. Taking economic recessions as an example, before 1929, we neverthought about making some regulations or else to restrict the development offinance. However, this great damage to the nation’s economy reminds us that it’stime to set up committee and laws to take financial companies under control andsupervision. So we need to examine the history for avoiding the similar errors.
However, history is always with eventswhich took place long long ago. So it is more crucial for us not to just imitatetheir past behaviors, neglecting the fact that the world is getting moresophisticated in many aspects, such as places, peoples, cultures and so forth. Atonce any condition alters, the whole world differs. During the end of QingDynasty, Chinese has no direction to develop this poor country. So it occurred tothem that it might be a good idea to imitate his neighborhood, Japan. Far fromenvision, due to the remained powers greater than that in Japan existing inChina and other elements, Chinese failed. we should just abstract the parts weneeded from history and then strive to our goal solely by using our ownmethods.
To sum up, history is a great property ofour human-beings, yet we have to take this caution that everything in the worldis changing and differs from that in the past into account. We are supposed tochoose the appropriate thing out of the history and improve it according toours in order to design a better decision. |
