关于either, neither单复数问题

在Manhattan上看到说either/neither...or/nor...后面的verb是与离verb最近的noun agree, 而either/neither单独出现的时候verb用单数；
但如果either/neither单独出现引导的是复数noun呢？仍然用verb单数形式吗？（好像说得有点乱。。。）

还是单数，因为是指复数中的任意一个。个人见解。求大牛

这个。。。。我觉得还是要来具体题目来讨论，一般来讲对于either / neither的单独使用，要求在正式文体中要与单数动词连用，在非正式文体（口语）中可与复数动词连用。
当either / neither后面跟有of them，of the books时，用过复数动词，因为复数动词紧靠them，books，主谓一致。
若连接两个复数名词作主语，后面动词用复数；如果一个单数名词和一个复数名词一起作主语时，动词的单复数形式必须和最靠近的一个主语保持一致。
Either Tim or Rose is coming
Neither boy students nor girl students are right ．
Neither the teacher nor the students are going to Huashan. （就近）

嗯，有道理，似乎either/neither更多是与of sth连用，一时想不出有什么时候是完全单独出现的。。。

manhattan 模考中出现了。neither of 应该接谓语单数。
eg: Any noun in a prepositional phrase, such as of my aunts, cannot be the subject of a sentence. Nor can a noun in a modifier (both of whom visited Venice last spring). The subject of the sentence must be neither, which is always singular (think of it as "neither one"), so the singular wants is the correct verb.

曼哈顿[Meaning, Structure& Modifiers: Extra]这一章的课后练习第7题里面出现过：I was so thirsty that either of the two drinks WERE fine with me.是错的，应该把WERE改成WAS，用单数形式，答案解释的是：Either as a pronoun is singular.
