Yet within that very statement lies a
contradiction that undermines this kind of thinking — it is necessary for outside forces
to check the behavior of corporations, because we do not expect corporations to
behave in such a manner. In fact, the expectation is simply that corporations will follow
the law, and in the course of doing so, engage in every possible tactic to their advan -tage
in the pursuit of more and greater profit. To expect otherwise from corporations is to fail
to understand their puropose and their very structure.

在这个陈述里面有个削弱这种推理的否认/矛盾——很有必要有外界力量来检查公司的行为，因为我们不能期望公司以这种方式行动。事实上，我们的期待仅仅是公司能遵守法律，并在这么做的过程中，投入到对他们有利的各个可能策略中以追求更多的利润，否则，对公司有期待就是没能理解他们的目的和他们非常的结构。
（感觉翻译过来意思就不太明确了，LZ觉得怎么样）

既然前两句说公司破坏环境，追逐利润。这里又说contradiction that undermines，
后面是应该监督。那么前后是同一个意思。contradictoin是谁和谁？前后同一个意思，也没有undermine？

既然前两句说公司破坏环境，追逐利润。这里又说contradiction that undermines，
后面是应该监督。那么前后是同一个意思。contradictoin是谁和谁？前后同一个意思，也没有undermine？

前面的意思是说公司在unchecked的情况下就可以做到不破坏环境，后面说的就是要有检查
