145 Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
There has been a controversy nowadays over the issue of what kind ofrole advertisements are playing. Some people deem that advertisements persuade the public to buy products that they do not really need, while others think that advertisements inform the customers about new products and improve their life. As far as I am concerned, I strongly support the latter. In the following discussion, I would like to reason and provide evidence to support my point of view.
To begin with, from a marketing perspective, advertising is a paramount important approach to promot the exchanging process between suppliers and buyers. It functions as a means of communition. Furthermore, it is even more critical to those product-oriented and market-oriented companies. By this effective communication vehicle, companies are able to launch their new products in the whole city and all over the country. For example, Kellogg LTD. successfully introduced its new tasty crispy flakes in India by advertisements in mass media. Most of my India friends enjoy these delicious snacks.
Next, not every body is willing to try the novel products. Advertisements help in illustrating the properties, price and benefits of the new products, which offer more convenience or other additional values to our life. For example, some conservative customers are able to acknowledge the new products. With the help of advertising, they are more and more familiar with the newly introduced products and begin to make the purchasing decision. Taking the ATM as an example. Five years ago, seniors in my countries seldom use them, for they are afraid that their money would be taken away by these machines without any proof. However, after the advertisements of the banks, more and more seniors begin to use this convenient service, an intangible product.
Admittedly, dissenters may proclaim that a lot of advertisements overstate the functions of products, or always try to persuade the customers to buy those products they do not really need, say, banana holders. Obviously, they fail to realize that the merits of advertisements carry more weight of their drawbacks. In fact, the governments are establishing all kinds of regulations to avoid that.
To sum up, given the reasons discussed above, advertisements play an active role in our modern business world. Not only do they communicate with the customers, but also well introduce all kinds of products to the potential buyers. In this means, advertisements effectively improve the quality of our life. |
