In contemporary society, one of the most common dilemma may be the dilemma between "accuracy" and "quickness". Some people may think quickness is outweigh the accuracy because they believe quickness stands for efficiency. However, in my view, accuracy is always my priority when I am carrying out a work.
First and foremost, sometimes mistakes are not allowed because that may result in disaster, especially in technological industry such as manufacture of aircrafts, rockets. The cost of mistakes even small mistakes may be significant. One may lose his property, job. In some circumstances, the result may even severe, even causing death. For instance, in Zhejiang Province of 2011, a train run out of the track, more than 100 people died in the accident. The reason is that some officials in the government tried to push forward the process of construction of modern super trains, which has a higher speed than the regular ones. However, they fail to guarantee the quality of the project at the same time. Emphasizing speed result in death, what a tragedy. I don't think such tradeoff is deserve. In this sense, I believe we should always put the accuracy on the first place, otherwise there would be more tragedies tomorrow.
Moreover, sometimes working quickly are actually would slow the process as a whole. If there are a multitude of mistakes are made during the work process, then one must probably retackle the problem again, which in turn would adversely affect the efficiency. This example may give some light to the point. When I was at college, I worked as a TA for my economics professor. Once when I was scoring the assignments the students handed in, I was so rush because I was eager to go to an appointment. Later on, a lot of students complained about the mistakes I made during the process. My professor heard about that and blamed on me. I was asked to rescore the whole stack of assignments! In this basis, It is not a good deal to trade accuracy with speed, in which case we may lose more. On the other hand, if you work carefully, you may accelerate your job.
To be objective, It is may helpful to work quickly than to work mistakes. For example, if the deadline is around the corner, if it is ok to make some mistakes in some tasks.
Generally speaking, I prefer perform my job my accurately than quickly. Don't too rush, there's stones on the road. The faster, the more possibility that you may be hindered. |
