Issue 6 14 96 116
A nation should require all of its studentsto study the same national curriculum until they enter college.

The common sense informs us that the childrenof a nation are its future. Along with becoming independent and successful, they are the ones to carry the responsibility of running the nation as well asdeveloping it in the future. Therefore, it is very essential to form a strongbase in their formative years. Education plays an important role in formingsuch basis. The curriculum should be carefully chosen to fill the goal. But is therea necessity for a nation to require its students to study the same national curriculumuntil they enter the college? In my opinion, the lager part of curriculumshould be the same, and under this circumstance, the schools have freedom tomake some certain changes according to the reality.

Having a uniform curriculum is beneficialin many ways. It can guarantee a standard level which is required by everystudent before they enter the college. Especially for such students who entermore than one high school. The uniform curriculum makes it easier for them to beat the same level as the other students who have not to move to another highschool. For example, consider the people in a transferable job like the defense;they need to change their schools as often as the guardians get transferred toa new place. If there are no guidelines for curriculum given to schools, thesechildren will have to face new and unfamiliar everywhere they go. This willmake it difficult for them to cope up with the requirement of the newcurriculum and they will be at a great disadvantage. The uniform curriculum ina nation will ensure such children who have to change schools and adjust in anew environment without hampering their growth.

What’s more, according to the essence ofeducation, it should let students find where their interest is in and providethe knowledge about that field. Before entering the college, children are inthe process of exploring the different courses in order to find which is themost suitable for them. Just imagine a school determines the specific coursefor every student based on his or her interest at that time, and onlycurriculum which is related with this field is available for him or her. If thestudent realize that he or she is not interested in the field which he or sheused to have interest in, but due to the limited course he or she learned, itis hard for the student to change to another course which may suitable for himor her. So consider the students have not mature enough minds to decide which fieldtheir interest is in, the nation should require every student to have the same curriculumbefore they take the college education, at that time, they will have a clearmind to choose a field which is fit themselves most.

However, the school should have certainliberty in choosing the format of courses it offers. The ability of students isdifferent from one to one. While there are some students who are fast leaners, some are at the average level and some are extremely slow. And the interests ofstudents vary. So school can open some elective courses for such students whoare interested in it and have time to handle it.

In sum,  a common core curriculum which providesfundamental skills and knowledge is necessary for the presentation for thefuture higher education, and it can ensure all the students can keep in thesame run line and can catch up with each other. However, at the same time, schoolsshould not follow it blindly and can make some changes to pursuit the bettereducation to students.
