Account的几种用法
There are two cases:
1. "account" can be used alone to represent the reason given for a particular action or event. For example: What is the account for this loss? This usage was addopted by the phrase "on one's own account", which simply means "for oneself". For example: I want to work on my own account.
2. Phrase "on account of" is same as "because of" or "for the sake of". For example:
1) She got married suddenly on account of her pregnence.
2) The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude -- US Constitution Section 2.
Note: Don't mix the "account for" in the first example with the usage of the phrase "account for". The "account" in the first example is a noun; however the phrase "account for" is a verb phrase, which is to constitute the governing or primary factor or to provide an explanation or justification. For example:
1) Wickedness is a myth invented by good people to account for the curious attraction of others. (Oscar Wilde)
2) The suspect couldn't account for his time that night.
