答案选B没有问题 2008prep语法笔记中解答部分让我很疑惑，“在Only seven people this century have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies—fewer than …中， 不仅仅Only seven people，后面的this century have been killed by the great white shark也都在比较对象里面，所以后文不能用those killed by bee stings，而应该用平行的结构than have been killed。” 我一直以为，B选项是省略了those，但这样看来是不对的。 另外，解答中说“than可以即做连词又做代词，即than作为比较连词的同时指代了people”
不过之前我自己是这样理解than的比较结构的，有一条是than之后一定要出现的是引起不同的成分（也就是说有不同才会比较的），这个句子里就是被大白鲨杀死的人和被蜜蜂杀死的人比较，也就是很说have been killed by bees是引起不同的成分，是必须有的。

今天又看了一下这个句子，感觉ls说的非常对啊~ 原句是要比较两个事件：鲨鱼杀死的人比蜜蜂杀死的人要少。而A选项less than those killed by bee stings让人感觉像是两个人数的比较，因为killed by bee stings像是在做状语修饰those，要避免这样的歧义，必须补上have been，保证是两个句子（事件）之间的比较
去掉同位成分 Only seven people this century 【have been killed by the great white shark】—fewer than 【have been killed by bee stings.】 很平行 记得高中的时候好像有讲过than在某种情况下有代词之意
I wish I could write English with more freedom 【than】 is at present possible. There were more casualties 【than】 was reported. 查了一下，than在语法中有个准关系代词的身份。 大概这里是这个意思吧
first, ones cannot refer to people ( that is the no doubt, confirmed by many instrcutors in the foreign countries)
second, if ones can indeed refer to people
the choice is still not good, for two reasons
1. the article the indicates exclusitivity , you are saying the ones as the previously mentioned "seven people" (that is non-sense, people cannot be killed twice)
2. the compariosn is made in the same timeframe( this century), the verb tense should be excatly the same
