Last year the number of students who enrolled in online degree programs offered by nearby Omni University increased by 50 percent. During the same year, Omni showed a significant decrease from prior years in expenditures for dormitory and classroom space, most likely because instruction in the online programs takes place via the Internet. In contrast, over the past three years, enrollment at Humana University has failed to grow, and the cost of maintaining buildings has increased along with our budget deficit. To address these problems, Humana University will begin immediately to create and actively promote online degree programs like those at Omni. We predict that instituting these online degree programs will help Humana both increase its total enrollment and solve its budget problems.
In the argument ,the author recommends that Humana University should introduce the online degree programs like those at Omni university, and it will help Humana both increase its total enrollment and solve its budget problems. To support this recommendation the author points out that the number of the students who enrolled in online degree programs offered by nearby Omni university increased by 50 percent, last year, then there is a significant decrease about the expenditures for the dormitory and classroom space compared to the prior years . To better support the point the author also shows that the number of the enrollment at Humana university failed to grow while the cost of maintaining building has increased . however , this argument is logically flawed in several critical respects.
First of all, the author does not show me the total number of the students who joined in the online degree programs last year , perhaps the number of the students is very low , even though the number has increased by 50 percent , the number of the students is still very low . in addition the argument assume that the expense of the Omni university’s dormitory and the classroom space decreased a lot as a result of the instruction in the online programs rather than for some other reasons . while it is entirely possible that more and more students want to live outside and maybe the apartments around the school are much cheaper and perhaps the teachers takes more their classes outside than before or some other factors. So without pointing out all other reasons why the expense decreased significantly , the online degree programs may not be the reason.
Secondly, the author does not provide enough reasons about the Humana university’s problem that its enrollment has failed to grow and the expense of maintaining buildings has increased . Perhaps ,although the number of the enrollment did not grow during the three years , the total number of the enrollment every year is big enough , and the university may not have the capability to recruit more students . What’s more , it may be inevitable that the increased expense of maintaining buildings , perhaps the buildings of the university need a drastically maintain during the three years , then it will cost only a little money on the buildings maintain . So lacking such reasons , the author simply cannot convince me that they are real problems for the Humana university .
Thirdly, even if the online degree program is very successful at the Omni university , and the Humana university puzzled by the problems . While the author assumes too hastily that the online degree program will be also successful at the Humana university . Perhaps the expense of the whole program will be too high for the Humana university to introduce it . and the students of the Humana university may not want to join the online degree program . And the author overlooks other methods that could be applied to solve the problem , the university can open more attractive courses and it can provide the high quality food and comfortable campus to attract more students , and the university can cooperate with some companies , to help these companies do some work and these companies can patronage the university. In short , without more information ,it is impossible to assess that the online degree program is a better choice for the Humana and it will be successful .
In sum ,as it stands the argument is totally unpersuasive . To bolster it the author must show that the online degree program is successful at the Omni university . To better access the argument it would be useful to know that the Humana university puzzled by the problem . And to strengthen it the author must assure me that the program is the better choice for the Humana university.
