Do you agree with the view point that people are now easier to become educated than in the past?

The past two decades witnessed transformational changes in technology and social fabrics. With the advancement of computer science, internet and increasing awareness and implementation of education rights, people, especially children from poor families, women and minorities now enjoys more and higher-quality education. Education becomes more accessible and affordable.

Compared with the first half of 20th century, there are more channels to reach for knowledge. Since the 1980s, various institutions offering degree or non-degree programs have sprung up. High school entrance rate has stroked a record high, and universities continue to expand. Among all these, community universities have served millions of people wanting to further their education in various fields. Besides the conventional form of education, e-learning also soars. Those online professional forums such as MIT BBS, along with e-libraries and free lectures offered by prestigious universities have paved the way for people who could not afford a university education.    According to statistics from UNISCO, internet has ranked among the top 5 learning vehicles for its vista of information storage and convenient use. Further more, many non-profit organizations run volunteer programs to offer free lectures to kids, women and the elderly in disadvantaged communities.

Apart from the many learning channels, there are incomparable opportunities that modern people enjoyed. Several social campaigns in the end of the last century have earned women and minorities the education rights that had denied them for ages. Within three decades, female college students have for the first time outnumbered the male ones in many countries including United States and China. And wealth is no longer the prerequisite for one to enjoy high quality education. For the ill-advantaged parties who are unable to afford the forbidding amount of college fees, there are now government-founded loans and philanthropic donations to help them translate their dreams into reality. The once elite game is now within the reach of normal citizens.

Admittedly, some problems still remain and the education system is no near to perfection. However, it could be well assured that people nowadays enjoy more accesses to education than in the past.

88日独立作文  【What is the main role of the university professor, to educate students or to do research?】

A brand new application season is unfolding, and thousands of hundreds of students are tossing at night struggling as which university they should compete for. Lots of famous professors is definitely a great plus. But wait, are they researchers or educators, uh, that totally different.

The above question has become a hot-button among applicants as well as professors, and opinions tend to diverge on the role of university professors.

For the applicants, who aspires to go through an intensive academic training, the more attention from and communication with the professor, the better.

However, some professors take an opposite perspective, saying that university professor should invest more time in the research rather than in conducting teaching routines. For them, the teaching is much a burden than a gift, for it is time-consuming and to the detriment of their academic growth. In addition, having a professor lecturing may also hinder the students’ learning. A professor researching in neurotic science, who also lectures to undergraduates, responds that half of her class have problem understand the lecture, “My research products is beyond their current knowledge storage, better for them to learn some Neurotic 101s.” Also, based on feedbacks from undergraduates who have attended professors’ classes, professors tend to lack teaching skills and give boring yet demanding lectures.

Admittedly, there is no definitive answer to such a debate. As a college student who has suffered several semesters poring over piles of research papers to understand professors’ research products, I do think professors make bad lecturers. Maybe they are just cut for doing researches.

整体语言不错的,只是主题我看的不是很清晰,

89日独立作文

you can know a lot about a person through the types of friends this person has。

It’s human nature that people of similar interests and personalities tend to congregate around each other. Consequently, more often than not we take it for granted that “you are who you stay with”, holding the view that we could form a whole picture of a person by the types of friends he or she has. Unfortunately, it fails to prove so.

Even though John Donne has well put it that no man is an island, he doesn’t say that each part of the isles must resemble each other. We seek for the shared attributes, but it does not hinder us from being attracted by the differences. One major reason why friendship is so charming and enchanting is that it transcends borders, genders, ages and interests. As long as the two find each other interesting to stay with, the friendship comes into being. That explains why seeming two radically different persons would turn out to be best friends. For example, my best friend is fond of outdoor activities and is the queen in bars; whereas I prefer reading quietly and opposes alcohol. And we hang on together every weekend, sharing with each other the findings and advantures during the week. The our striking differences makes an enjoyable friendship. Thus conformity in personalities surely is not the only ingredient in friendship.

Even when we do befriend with the same type of person as we are, we still remain as integrate an individual as we used to be--we hold fast to our principles and would not easily sacrifice them to please others. Friendship is one thing,  principle is another. That explains why Keats and Shelly--two great poets and friends--would diverge so greatly on their view of poetry.

To sum up, we do not necessarily befriend with people of our kind, and even we do, we are far from be represented by our friends.

In the lecture, the professor comments that though the passage is right in pointing out that the energy recourses the internal-combustion engine relies on are finite and that operating the internal-combustion engine pose great harm to the environment; it exaggerates the role of hydrogen engines in solving all these defects concerned. Then she goes further illustrating in three parts.

Firstly, the recourses are not so available and practical to extract as the passage indicates. Despite the availability of water, it could not be directly used by hydrogen-based fuel cells. It requires pure liquid state hydrogen which is technically difficult to store, thus refutes the first advantage held in the passage that the resources fuel-cell engines utilize are easily available and renewable.

In addition, the fuel-cells are impotent in effectively solve the car problems mentioned. Considering its production requires purification process which result in large quantity of coal and oil-burning, the fuel-cells are not that much environmentally-friendly as assumed, which renders the second advantage less charming.

Finally, the adoption of the fuel-cell is no better cost-saving than the internal-combustion engine. The fuel-cells require a rare metal to participate in the production process and add a lot to the cost. This contradicts the third advantage held by the passage.

In a nut shell, the professor points out several defects the passage fail to take into consideration.

个人觉得第一段最好的做法要不就不讲观点 要不就讲完整观点 而楼主只讲了一个要被反驳的点 这样会显得很突兀,其实有三个点需要被反驳的。。。分别是 the internal-comsubtion engines are technological unfeasiable, environmentally unfriendly, and ecomocially unvialbe
