6. A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.

Is it imperative to require all of nation’s students to study the same national curriculum before the college, as the statement suggested? Admittedly, studying the same national courses is propitious to the racial integration, and some basic knowledge is applied to every student. On balance, however, I tend to disagree with the speaker, considering the feasibility of the educational resources and the negativity of the compulsory policy, not all the students are suitable to obtain the same knowledge.

First and foremost, I have to admit the undeniable fact that promoting the same national curriculum is favorable to form the common cultural values. In the first place, the national curriculum can guarantee students to possess the uniform standard and requirement on the same academic level, laying a firm foundation of the pursuit of the college studying. Some basic courses are the abilities to solve the elementary problems, such as mathematics, science, history, computer technologies and so on. Consider, for example, Harvard University’s moral education courses is based on the Practical Ethics by arranging the same curriculum for every institution, the concept of which is to make the combination of the multifarious subjects on the moral level. In the second place, to some remote areas, the policy of the same curriculum is enabled to let some impoverished children acquire formal education. In order to decrease the diversity of the various regions, it is widely acknowledged that this policy is a way to promote and reach the common values.

Although this assertion has merits, I fundamentally disagree with the statement in two respects, for the reason that the uniform curriculum is incapable of satisfying all the students’ need in reality, and everyone from different background, different culture and different regions, which conducing to different minds, making it rough acquire the same theories.

With the respect of the feasibility of the proposition, to learn the same curriculum, which means to ignore the diversity of the different regions and more teachers, facilities are needed, will spend a huge cost of education investment. As a developing country-China, we are not able to afford so much expense. In addition, our nation is composed with 56 races with unique culture and what they need to learn is various. One of the appropriate examples is our minority people live in Tibet, as the precarious environment, they have to possess the ability to hunt and pasture, while we live in the city do not need to learn that skill.

With the respect of the negativity of the proposal, forcing to implement the same curriculum will result in debasing impact on the nation, leading to conflicts between different regions. It is wise and justifiable to set the curriculum according to the region’s culture, esteeming their history’s heritage. It calls to my mind that California requires children at certain grade levels to learn about the history of particular ethnic groups making up the state’s diverse population. Nevertheless, a national curriculum might not allow for this feature, making the California’s youngsters would be worse off as a result of their ignorance about the traditions, values, and cultural contributions of all the people whose citizenship they share.

From the analysis above, despite the same curriculum proposition is able to promote the merging of the culture, nonetheless, it also jeopardize the nation’s diversity. Furthermore, some problems exist in the proposition, who has the power to establish the same curriculum? How to extend this policy? In my view, culture hybrid is a gradual process, neither force to carry it out nor let it be and give no management.
