I think the pronoun it (after it passes through a red giant stage) is unclear, it can refer to a star, a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
I feel C is better.

哦明白了。不会的，因为直接跟在star后面。star前面的whether已经开始了宾语从句。
