Try to use the name on your passport. However, I believe there is a field on the application ask what other names you've used / are using. You can add your english name there, then no other explanation is required.

不是必须的其实无所谓。Adcom没有那么笨啦。如果强迫该过来，反而不真实，假设学校打电话过去问，说起你的中文名字，你的老板说，我不知道这个人，你不是就郁闷到底啦？

然后你可以给学校写一封信说明。

反正用什么名字无关紧要的。
