scientists have suggested that once every 10 million years or so a truly colossal object from space cuts through the atmosphere and slams into earth, sending up a global pall of dust that blots out the sun, alters the climate, and changes the course of evolution by killing off many plant and animal species.

A) sending up a global pall of dust that blots

D) and that sends up a global pall of dust, blotting

答案是A，自由的疑问，D中的that错误是不是因为：1）that不能单独做主语，一定要有一个修饰词语；2）主次关系混淆的错误？

D中THAT 无可指代,意思混乱

d中的that容易造成scientists have suggested that ....and that.......并列的误解。

另一种误解that作pron.但是没有明确的指代对象。

第二个and前面有个逗号，所以这种并列没有存在。

问题是GMAT中that不能指代前面的一个抽象出来的概念

所以that没有指代的对象

我进一步说明一下，不知是否正确！

“a truly colossal object from space cuts through the atmosphere and slams into earth”才是Send的动作发出者，用动名词，伴随结果最好了。

D项中用了that，如果不考虑句意，则应该是指代earth，由earth send...所以错。

另外，可以看一下后面的，blots out 、alters、and changes的动作之间并无修饰，都是在修饰gust，所以是并列结构，故此他们应使用同一形式！
