[原创]Large class or small class

Education is eternal for people. During students' university period, large lectures and small discussion classes are always choices for them. Some students believe that large lectures do more benefits to them, because they have many chances to know each other. However, from the prospective of the purpose of the class, i disagree with such opinion. As i see, small discussion classes should be the first consideration if we can choose.

To begin with, in a small class, students are able to discuss the topic given by the professor right now. From a research of learning and memory, people remember things better if they review them immediately. For this reason, students in a discussion class can study better. On the other hand, in a large lecture, lecturer gives speech himself or herself, and there would be no time for students to discuss. As a result, the effection will be weaken.

In the next place, in a small class, it's an advantage that there are not many students. So that professor is able to communicate with everyone. For instance, when a student raises up because he is puzzled by a problem, the professor is allowed to spend enough time in helping the student solve this question. But as we all know, in a large lecture, it's impossible for professor to act like this because of more students.

Finally, and obviously, students in small class pay attention on the course. However, from my experience, there would be always some students sleeping during a large lecture. And this is not easy to catch. So i consider universities in which many small discussion classes are used as good ones.

Maybe large lectures can help students know more friends, but they are not good ways to gain knowledge. And students should choose more small discussion classes if they really want to learn someting.
