Now, the first Olympic games in our country are drawing to the end. Chinese athletes' performance is awesome: We have harvested more gold medals than the widest prediction, that is 45, by Sports Illustrated. As a sports fan, I generally experienced a delightful summer vacation, during which I could freely switch from channel to channel, to watch my favorite games. CCTV appeared considerate at first: It additionally put its channel 3 and channel 7 into operation, reportedly to satisfy audiences' demand.
My unhappiness emerges as track and field matches kicked off. These matches seemed to be broadcasted exclusively by Channel 1. When the finals of track and field matches are on as scheduled, there used to be some overlapping finals of Chinese athletes in other matches as well. Understandably, those former matches gave way to those latter ones, and CCTV 1 would only switch back after victory ceremony and interviews with our champions. Though CCTV could have continued broadcasting the former matches on other channels, us track and field fans were usually kept waiting until the end of daily coverage--in this way, I missed the long jump, high jump, 5000m race... As most of us have noticed, Channel 3 and 7 shunned away from Olympics broadcasting for quite a few days.
Moreover, CCTV 1's timing for daily express is disputable. It is on at around 9 p.m., again shatter the track and field broadcasting into pieces. We, as sports fans and patriots, are no less concerned than CCTV on our athletes performance. As time came to night, we usually have learned our sons and girls achievements from various ways. Why should it bother to stage a express at this time?
Arguably, track and field, as the initial form of sports and the most important part of the comprehensive games nowadays, has not been paid due respect by CCTV this time. It might be due to our country's weakness in this aspect. But, our Olympics' slogan is ONE WORLD, ONE DREAM. And, a world's people have a world of hobbies. Their joys shall not stand to be sacrificed for meaningless, repeated expresses. This night, there were 4*400 relays. I waited till the end of the victory ceremony of 10m platform dive and comments by the hosts to watch only the record. Should I say thank you, CCTV?
The last point to make: Maybe it is the right time to do something to cultivate interest in our children for track and field. And one usually derives interest from watching those great athletes running, jumping, hurling.
