我查了字典关于 bathyscaphe 的解释.. 看来确实是 attach to 的问题.. 我想.. with 在这里间接地表示了并列的意思..

我猜是ETS出题时把这个句子抄来.. 稍微改动.. 只是改的时候比较粗心.. 忽略了observation 前面应该是an.. 而不是a..

不过关于第一问题，我觉得好像值得再看一下，
The (taller) of all animals, a (full –grown ) giraffe (may be ) eighteen feet or (more high.)
D好像没有问题，eighteen feet or more（feet）是一个词组，修饰high，这里本来就只是说有多高，没有比较的含义吧

我觉得高用high来表示动物或事物也是可以的吧。我查了一下，high，n。高度；高水准；最高纪录，本身就有height的意思，而且好像现在基本都不用height，如：The price reached a new high。
但这不是关键，我觉得句子首先没有比较的含义，其次如果这么写大家可能好理解一点：
The tallest of all animals, a full –grown  giraffe may be  eighteen feet high.
然后再考虑一下eighteen feet or more high.
