答案: D. 这里的when they are written可以省略成when written, 这样是属于什么用法? 记得有一道题中when asleep就不对. 这两种用法是不一样的吗? 还有一个疑问, D答案中的but前后句子中的状语不需要并列是吗? 我是指: when..., but ...in...

我记得新东方的老师说过，五个选项中选出最合适的那个，不一定是最完美的，这里五个选项中，but前后的状语都没有并列，所以这一点在这里就不用考虑了吧。

D比B好的原因大概就是因为比它简洁吧？

这两个题目是不一样的：

(A) during sleep in higher concentrations than when awake

(D) in higher concentrations during sleep than during waking hours

E选项中的when asleep ，逻辑主语是The human growth hormone显然不合逻辑。

关于这个：“这里的when they are written可以省略成when written, 这样是属于什么用法?”

我个人的看法是：逻辑主语一致，且是be动词，可以省略主语和be动词

这里的but...in...不是和when...并列，而是和that is compact从句并列。
when written，严重同意dreadpower的观点。我以前在真题中见过类似的用法。
