40.“With the increasing emphasis on a global economy and international cooperation, people need to understand that their role as citizens of the world is more important than their role as citizens of a particular country.” The issue claims that people nowadays should perform the role of as citizens of the world more than one nation. To some extent, I generally agree with the author's assertion as the role of the world becomes increasingly important in the modern society. However, the author unnecessarily extends the broad assertion to an irreversible extrem while overlooks the importance to play the role as a nation citizen that may affect the role as a world citizen relatively. As far as I concerned, my positions are based on a deep and fundamental analysis as discussed below. On the one hand, I am quite in favor of the author's idea that people's role as citizens of the world is becoming more and more important currently. We can apparently receive the merits primarily in many cases in which the implicit rationale behind it accords with common sense and our experience in daily life. There arised a number of problems all through the world, it is necessary for citizend to take into account the issues in the perspectives of a world citizen but not only a nation. For instance, the severe environmental issue, the crisis of mineral resources and so forth. Therefore, people should take actions and responsible for all the world but not merely for one nation. Furthermore, if people only consider themselves as a nation citizens, probably they would only care about their interest but regardless of others, shifting the burden and threating from their own nation to another, thus leading to a series of circularly serious consequences. Given by the example, some developed countries import a large quantities of wood from developing countries in order to solve their own problems temporarily. Nevertheless, in the long run, no nation can survive alone without any interdependent, short-sight and narrow mind will only result in the more severe consequences. On the other hand, it does not mean that people have to discard or weaken their role as citizens of one nation. Without the awareness of being citizens of a particular country, people will find no roots to behave on the stage of the world. The two roles are not incompatible but mutually benefit in the most time. As a citizen, while preserving the traditional culture also contributes positive efforts to the diversity of the world culture. Obviously, when a person make donnations to the country's public service and charities, which also motives and arise him/her to pay attention to the international scope. To sum up, issue of being two roles is complex one requiring subjective judgement. So different are the personal experiences and emotional concerns among people with diverse culture that thousand individuals might hold thousand opinions. According to my position, I consider that the two roles, national and international, are not mutually exclusive alternative, they can be properly combined to serve each other.
