1. My question: If our university does not provide official GPA rank in class, shall I leave the cell blank in the transcript template or estimate it by myself?
Kate's answer: If you do not have a class rank, you can leave that blank. 2. My question: If I cannot remember exactly the "Department" of each course I took, can I fill in a best guess or "Other"? Kate's answer: You should fill in your best guess and then make a note in Optional Essay #5 that you were making best guesses for the department section of the transcript. 3. My question: If our university only issues official transcript in 5.0-scale, shall I self-report transcript in 5.0 scale or convert to 4.0 credit scale? If I use 4.0-scale, do I need to explain the difference with official transcript in Essay 5? Kate's answer: We do ask that you convert your grades into the US GPA scale. A conversion chart is provided in the instructions of the application as well as on our website at www.gsb.columbia.edu/mba/admissions/apply/instructions/gpa. However, we are aware that this chart is not appropriate for converting all grading systems. We do not provide a specific system for converting English grades so I can not give you specific guidance. I can give you the US system which may help you figure out a proper way to convert your grades. The US system is as such: 4.0 = A (94-100%) 3.6 = A - (90-93% 3.3 = B + (87-89%) 3.0= B (84-86%) 2.6 = B- (80-83) 2.3 = C+ (77-79) (continues in the same pattern) If your percentage scale is very different than the US system (a score below 60% is an F) you should not use the percentages to convert your grades. However, you may be able to convert using the letter grades. Please note, you should explain how you converted your grades in Optional Essay #5. 4. My question: I majored in "Investment & Economics" in my undergraduate university. This major was merged into "Finance" right before my graduation. However, the major name in my diploma is still "Investment & Economics". Shall I choose "Finance" or "Other" as my major in the transcript template? If I choose "Finance", do I need to explain it in Essay 5? Kate's answer: You should choose Finance and then explain in Essay #5. 5. My question: What does "GPA range" mean? Does it refer to the lowest and highest GPA of all the semesters ( e.g. M! in=4.15 in summer 1997 and Max=4.61 in fall 1998)? in=4.15 in summer 1997 and Max=4.61 in fall 1998)? Kate's answer: GPA range refers to the grading scale, so 0.0 to 4.0.
