comments for mail to school on old TOEFL

Dear CDers:

Plan to ask 2 basic questions to schools through E-mail for my application plan initiating, 1 about old TOEFL and another China, would like to hear ur voice, structure and tone especially : )

Quote:

Dear XXXXXX recruit Officer/Name if available :

This is candidate XXX from Shanghai applying 2009, and I'm currently taking a Project Leader role for XXX fortune500 XXX Dept. Yes it seems a little bit early for me to contact with XXXXXX at this stage, pls be understood because the 2 clarifications required may impacting my schedule planning now.

1. Acceptance of "old" TOEFL for Chinese candidates 2009?

Background A:

There's a critical situation in China this year that students are desperately getting registered with seats for iBT exam. Many prepared long time but no opportunity to prove themselves as failed to get registered...

Background B:

Exam seats seems sufficient in some nearby countries like Korea and Singapore, but TOEFL still the only choice there while China and some Chinese speaking regions have already adapted iBT.

From a mature business attitude I don't want to take risk waiting seats for several months till an uncertainty finally comes, this is just a basic language test shall not take up so much resource both time and effort. So can I, as a China passport candidate, register and take old TOEFL exam in Singapore for my application? Or in another word, does XXXXXX consider old TOEFL equal with iBT for Chinese candidates, while some rumor say TOEFL will not valid for 2009 since only IBT exam students' speaking ability? Does XXXXXX prefer use interview or IBT to judge the students' speaking ability? I may need a solid answer on this, thanks.

2. China Attitude 2009

Candidates are with different background and style, does XXXXX look more into China from strategy these years for the changing, or nothing will be changed?

A famous phenomenon is that some B-school say Chinese candidates are with a high G/T score while lack of tact on soft skills, thus holds a comparatively cautious attitude towards Chinese candidates. From my observing things have been greatly change since more and more Chinese are working under an international environment in those new emerging industries especially banking and IT, will XXXXXX consider this when make out your student recruiting plan?

Sorry for been frank and maybe too directly on know more, partially from my work style. Hope can hear from u soon and wish u every success,谢谢J

Best Regards,

Signature(中文名)

Feel that shall raise my 1st Q b4 list the background, do u think so many explanation to recruiter may totally unecessary?

Many thanks

Plenty of people were able to find a way to take the IBT test this year.  I'm not sure how the school will treat this letter.

I do not think it is a good idea to write this to school. Many people can find IBT setas. It may leave an impression that you are not prepated and can not find a way to solve problem. At the same time, if it is the regulation of the school, I do not believe the school will treat applicants with different criteria. It will be unfair to other applicants
