i guess there's no exactly matching phrase for this one, I agree with eeyupyup. Try to use the most simplified words and sentence to express it.

老吾老明显是中国传统文化，英国和美国的文化是不讲这个的，你想找英文中完全对应的谚语是根本不可能的。

说得也是。不过不知道英美文化中有没有类似这种由小爱扩展到泛爱的说法。

多谢^_^！意思差不多，但是这种由小爱扩展到大爱的过程好像没有表现出来！

小妹妹，刚不是说了，老外不认为孝敬老人是天经地义的，父母儿女之间老死不相往来是正常又正常的事情，你这样说他们就糊涂了：当成我父母又怎么了？他们是他们我是我啊？

多谢鸟哥^_^！我也不想给老外解释这句话的出处，只是想表达中国有这么一种说法而已，其实我只是想表达我由于对自己父母的爱而扩展到对其他人的爱而已，如果英文中没有比较贴切的东东可以引用，那只好直接根据意思翻译出来了！
