My two cents, based on some job telephone interviews. 1. starting by warm greeting, such as " how are you...." usually the interviewer will greet you first. 2. if you are not ready, you could say " could you hold on for one second pls, i just need to grab a pen.." or if the phone line is noisy, you'd better ask to adjust or redial, otherwise it will affect your conversation big time. 3. usually before the interviewer start the first question, s/he will ask " are you ready?" 4. during the conversation, you'd better sit straight or stand. personally i feel sitting straight helps me concentrate better and gives me a higher pitch voice. 5. you might need some drinking water during the interview if it lasts for 30 min. I feel thirsty when i'm nervous 6. if you missed the question, you could ask the interviewer " i'm sorry, could you say that question one more time pls" or "i'm sorry, did you mean......." never keep silence when you don't understand, cuz the silence is very obvious during the phone conversation. and don't simply use " pardon" or "sorry" to ask for repeat. 7. don't use "that's all" or "that's it" to end your response. to end your response, you could say " so that's the reason why.....(briefly repeat the question)" or " that's basically what..." 8. end of the converstaion, you could say " thanks for your time. it was very nice talking with you and i'm looking forward to hearing from you soon." |
