campus interview

did you ever wonder why a school invites an applicant for on-campus interview? What does the school want to know that they can not get from your application material? Personality? Looks? Or the school just has money to spend? Those who are experienced please respond. Better still, if you are a faculty member and have taken part in decision making, please comment on the importance of on-campus interview. Thanks.
